Luck is a state of mind

Some people seem to be luckier than others. But is that really the case?

I believe that luck is a state of mind. When we believe that we are lucky, we will act as if we are lucky. We will put effort to achieve something and the door will open eventually. However, we have to anticipate the opportunity before hand, because if we don’t, we won’t be able to see it and we’ll miss it.

I’m still a believer that when we work hard towards something, The Universe will open the door to you. BUT it doesn’t mean that we shall just wait and do nothing. Doing nothing brings nothing.

Luck is a combination of effort, opportunity, and the ability to see and look for that opportunity.

Recently, I bought an airplane ticket back home for the long weekend of Election Day. When it was announced on the news that it would be a public holiday, I asked my HR manager to confirm it. She didn’t know anything about that so she called MoM to confirm it and tadaaa, it was really a public holiday! I immediately booked my ticket back home before the airline really had the time to increase the fare. It was only SGD90 for return ticket! The next two days, for the same airline and timing, it was already SGD200 for return ticket!

It might seem as luck at first glance, but it wasn’t. It really wasn’t. I knew what was going to happen if I didn’t buy the ticket immediately. I may have not even gone home at all because the air ticket has already become too expensive!

There may also be times in our lives when people underestimate us, saying that it will be impossible. They may be right, it may be hard and impossible, unless we really work hard to create our own luck for us.

Creating our own luck is our own responsibility, not the world’s.
